Coral Reef Water Globe

Coral Reef Water Globe

This fuse bead project will have you thinking of warm tropical days by the ocean. Make your own water globe to display all summer long on a shelf, desk, or table.

Instructions

Step 1
Download/print the PDF for the project pattern. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads, following the pattern.

Step 2
You will also need:
Round clear jar with screw-top lid, 3" diameter x 5" high
Coordinating decorative cord, 36" length
Water (distilled water recommended)
Glycerin or baby oil
Glitter (optional)
Hot glue gun

Step 3
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. Let the design cool.

Step 4
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.

Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step 5
Thoroughly clean and dry the jar and lid.

Step 6
Assemble the fused design components as shown on the pattern sheet. Hot glue the assembly to the inside of the jar lid.

Step 7
Fill the jar with water and add glycerin or baby oil (ratio is 3 teaspoons per 1 cup of water). Add about 2 teaspoons of glitter if desired.

Step 8
Place the lid on the jar, making sure the lid is tight. Run a line of hot glue around the bottom edge of the lid where it meets the jar.

Step 9
Wrap the cord around the edge of the lid and secure it with hot glue. Trim any excess cord.
