Flower Bird Feeder

Flower Bird Feeder

Welcome spring and the return of feathered friends with this flowery bird feeder made using Perler beads.

Instructions

Step 1
Download/print the PDF for the project pattern. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads, following the pattern.

Step 2
You will also need:
3 oz pet food container or other small metal container sized to fit hole in center of design
Jute twine, 1 yard lengths, qty 6 (We used an olive-colored twine, but any color will work.)

Step 3
Ask an adult to fuse your design. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard and bead design. In a circular motion, begin to iron the design. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. Let the design cool.

Step 4
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboard and ironing paper are reusable.

Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step 5
Thread a length of twine through the single cheddar bead at the base of a flower (bead marked with an x on the pattern), working from top to bottom. Knot the twine underneath the bead to secure it. Repeat on the other 5 single cheddar beads.

Step 6
Bring the 6 loose ends of the twine together above the design and knot them together at the desired length. Trim any excess twine.

Step 7
Insert the container into the bird feeder opening.

Step 8
Hang feeder and fill with bird seed.
