Snowflake Suncatchers

Snowflake Suncatchers

Create this unique Snowflake Suncatcher trio using Perler fuse beads. The opalescent insert will reflect the sunlight and brighten a snowy day.

Instructions

Step 1
Download/print the PDF for the project patterns. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads, following the patterns.

Step 2
You will also need:
Opalescent cellophane
Clear filament or string
Craft glue
Fine tip marker
Scissors

Step 3
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard and bead design. In a circular motion, begin to iron the design. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. Let the design cool.

Step 4
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboard and ironing paper are reusable.

Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step 5
Position a snowflake over the cellophane. Use the snowflake as a template and trace around the outer edges with the marker. If you accidentally get some marker on the snowflake, wipe it off with a damp paper towel. Trim the cellophane to shape, working just inside the traced line. Glue two like snowflakes together, sandwiching the cellophane in between. Repeat for the other two designs.

Step 6
Add the filament or string to hang.
