Solar System

Solar System

Create a 3-D model of the solar system using Perler fuse beads! Perfect for displaying on a desk or shelf, it’s a great addition to any bedroom with space-theme décor.

Instructions

Step 1
Download/print the PDF for the project patterns. If you are using a clear pegboard, slide the actual-size pattern underneath it. Place your beads, following the patterns.

Step 2
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard and bead design. In a circular motion, begin to iron the design. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. Let the design cool.

Step 3
Remove the paper and bead design from the pegboard. Flip the design over to expose the non-fused side. Repeat the fusing. Let cool completely. Once the design is cool, peel off the ironing paper. Your pegboard and ironing paper are reusable. Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.

Step 4
Insert the sun and planets into the base. Note: A piece of thick cardboard measuring 21" x 5.75" can be substituted for the fuse bead base. Paint the cardboard the desired color. Cut nine openings in the cardboard to fit the sun and planets. Use the base pattern on the pattern sheet as a general guide for placement of the openings.
