Step 2
Download the PDF for the Zombie Mask Project Pattern. You will use 4 large square pegboardsŃassemble the pegboards together as shown in the project sheet. Cut the patterns out and tape together in the same way. If you are using clear pegboards, slide the actual-size pattern underneath them. Place your beads following the pattern.
Step 3
Ask an adult to fuse your designs. NOTE: For this project, fuse ONLY the back side of the maskŃfuse it securely but not flattened (bead holes should still be open. This will enable the mask to curve around the face more easily when worn. Place your pegboard on a flat, heat-safe surface. Set a household iron to the medium setting. Place ironing paper over the pegboard. In a circular motion, begin to iron the project. When ironed properly, the beads will still have open centers. DO NOT OVER-IRON as this will cause the beads to close and can make assembly of your project more challenging. Let the design cool. Your pegboards and ironing paper are reusable.
Note: Beads need heat for about 10-20 seconds per side to fuse evenly. Lift the paper occasionally to see how the beads are fusing. Additional heating time may be required.
Step 4
ASSEMBLY: Eye: Glue the iris/pupil pieces to the front and back of the eyeball. Cut a 4 inch piece of wire and coil it around a pencil leaving a little at each end straight. Insert one end of the wire from front to back through a bead in the left eye socket on the mask. Bring the end back to the front through another bead and secure it around the coil. Attach the other end of the wire through a white bead on the eyeball in a similar way.
Step 5
Nose and Mouth: Glue these pieces directly over the same areas on the mask.
Step 6
Elastic cord: Insert one end of the elastic cord through a tan bead at the ear from back to front. Slide a dark grey bead onto the cord, then thread the cord through an adjacent bead to the back of the mask and knot. Repeat for other side.
